The Town of Milton Highway Department works hard to provide the best of services to the residents of the Town of Milton. Those services include: Spring & Fall Pick-up. In the Spring, pick up usually begins in early April (weather permitting) and continues until May 15th. During this time leaves may be placed curbside and do not need to be bagged. We ask Town residents to please place yard debris curbside and not in the roadways. Yard debris placed in roadways can be dangerous, can run into drainage systems, and is in violation of Stormwater Management regulations. We ask that you separate leaves from all other debris to be sure we do not damage Town equipment. We may not be able to pick up your leaves and sticks are mixed.
When Spring cleanup ends summer road re-construction begins. This prevents us from collecting yard debris on any type of regular basis during the summer. After May 15th, yard debris will need to be put into biodegradable paper bags or in containers that are clearly labeled “yard waste”. We urge all Town residents to put their yard debris curbside by May 15th so yard debris is not left curbside for long periods of time. For prompt disposal, Town residents can also bring their yard debris to the transfer station located at 503 Geyser Road.
Fall pick up begins in October and continues until inclement weather prevents us from further pick-ups. Leaves may again be loose at this time. Once again, we ask Town residents to please place yard debris curbside and not in the roadways. Yard debris placed in roadways can be dangerous, can run into drainage systems, and is in violation of Stormwater Management regulations. We ask that you separate leaves from all other debris to be sure we do not damage Town equipment. We may not be able to pick up your debris if it is mixed.
Please Keep in mind the following for both Spring and Fall pick-ups: keep yard debris/branches less than four feet in length, loose leaves will be removed with a suction truck. This truck will not be able to pick up your debris if it is mixed with branches or anything else that may damage the machine. Biodegradable bags must be used for anything you would like to bag. Unfortunately cannot pick up plastic bags. The Highway Department cannot pick up furniture, household appliances, garbage, tires, or batteries. Yard debris must be placed curbside and not in the roadways. We cannot pick up items that are not in compliance with above rules and regulations.
Free Mulch and Compost for Town Residents
In the early months of Spring, the Highway Department supplies mulch and compost to Town of Milton residents free of charge. Look for it in separate piles behind the Highway gates. Mulch and compost are given out on a first come, first serve basis. Try to get yours early as we usually run out by mid-May. Please follow all Covid safety measures by wearing a mask and practicing social distancing.
Winter Road Service
In the Winter, it is our number one priority to be sure our roadways are safe. The Highway Department is on call 24 hours a day to be sure to clear roadways during snow or ice storms. The safety of our residents is our number one concern. We ask residents to remember the Town Code that prohibits them from parking in the roadways from November until April. This Code makes sure the roadways are clear so we can safely plow and do our jobs in an efficient manner.
Free Sand/Salt mix available to Town Residents: The Highway Department also makes a sand/salt mixture available to Town residents during winter months. This sand/salt mixture will be available to Town residents on a first come basis. When the gates to the Highway Department are open, residents are welcome to come in and take the mixture. The sand/salt may be taken in five-gallon buckets only. There will be times that we, for safety reasons, will have to close the gate. During these times, we will leave piles of sand and slat outside the gates. We will try to keep these piles replenished the best that we can.
