The Town of Milton’s Dog Control is responsible for a number of duties including:
- Insuring that pets are appropriately licensed and that shots are current
- Guarding the public against animals running at large
- Working proactively to reunite lost pets with their owners
- Educating the public about the spaying and neutering of pets
- Enforcing all relevant sections of the New York State Agriculture and Markets Law
Please be aware that all dogs must be licensed at four months of age and need to wear their license tags at all times. Dogs can be licensed at the Town Clerk’s office.
Registering your dog:
1st time – You will need to bring in proof of rabies and proof if your dog has been spayed or neutered. Both of these can be the receipt from the Vet with date of vaccination.
Yearly Renewal - If rabies has expired or will expire within 30 days of renewal, we will need a new rabies certificate.
The cost of registration yearly is:
$20.50 if your dog has not been spayed or neutered
$13.50 if they have been spayed or neutered
You may mail a check for renewal to:
Town of Milton
503 Geyser Road
Ballston Spa, NY 12020
If it is the first time registering, you will need to come to the office so we can enter all your information into the computer and to provide you with a registration tag. If you would like to pay by credit card you will also need to come into the office.
Also, due to State Rules & Regulations the Dog Control Officer does not handle cats.
At all times of the year, animals kept outdoors should be provided with adequate shelter to protect them from weather extremes, along with sufficient food and fresh water daily.
