Clerk to the Town Justices
Distinguishing features of the Position:
The purpose of this front line, customer service oriented position is to meet the needs and requests of internal and external customers through the accurate and timely processing of information related to municipal court operations.
The Clerk to the Justice performs a variety of clerical and customer service functions to support the Town Court. Responsibilities include assisting customers in person and on the telephone and through e-mail. The position requires some flexibility with schedule in order to accommodate after hours court sessions.
Typical Work Activities:
⦁ Hours of employment are Monday morning 8am to noon, Tuesday morning 8am to noon and Wednesday evening from 5pm to 9pm.
⦁ Assist the Justice at the bench during all court proceedings
⦁ Communicate with outside agencies in order to coordinate the Courts activities
⦁ Collect monies and reconcile daily receipts
⦁ Basic computer skills and ability to learn new programs at a fast pace
Knowledge, Abilities and Personal Characteristics:
Good knowledge of the town’s geographic area and boundaries; ability to communicate well with others; ability to prepare and maintain written records and reports; ability to follow oral and written instructions; Fingerprint Background Required
Graduation from high school or possession of a general equivalency diploma (GED)
